Julie Allerton - Chartered Accountant

Chartered Accountant (member since 18.5.95)
Bachelor of Business (Accounting), minor in Law - Deakin University
Business Certificate in Accounting - Adelaide Tafe

I joined a Chartered Accounting firm at 16 years of age as office junior. At this stage I started my Advanced Certificate in Accounting at the Adelaide TAFE graduating in 1988.

Then I went on to complete a Bachelor of Business with a major in Accounting and a minor in Law which was started via correspondence, then as a full time student. I attended Deakin University at Warrnambool in Victoria where I graduated in 1993.

After graduating I then started on my way to becoming a Chartered Accountant. I entered the Professional Year which is 18 months of working, studying and exams. I completed this course and was admitted as a Chartered Accountant in May 1995.

In 1998, I left Adelaide to work in London. Whilst there I worked for the BBC (Drama dept) for 12 months preparing departmental financial statements and assisting in consolidating those financial statements for corporate division.

I then left to work in the Oil Industry where I was Deputy Group Accountant for a privately owned oil trading company. This company was Swiss based and had offices in USA, Moscow, Singapore, and Korea. I was responsible for preparing all these financial statements. I was also heavily involved in liasing with the Swiss based auditors which audited the accounts each year.

In 2001, I returned to Adelaide and after 6 months travelling and relaxing I began working at a large furniture retailer as Financial Accountant. I was responsible for the monthly financial statements preparation, all employee movements and liaised with other department heads on all accounting issues across the company.

In late 2003 I left this company to plan my own business. Initially while planning the business I did some short term temp assignments and in June 2004 I had my first client. Usually when accountant’s go out on their own they usually take clients from their old firm. In my case I was working out in commerce therefore I started the hard way with no clients.

Over the years I have working in Chartered Accounting Offices starting from the bottom up. I have worked in commerce in a large organisation and my family have been in business for over 30 years. I have dealt with all types of businesses, from professionals, retail establishments, manufacturers, hospitality and tourism.

My real love is helping people and working with them to achieve their goals in business and life. I want to work with those people who like me are in small business.
